Statement

My art is about constant response. This is noticeable at the physical level in the way I work, where every brush stroke or act has a very specific way it has to be done, it is very up to my own gut, kind of way. Usually it happens very quickly. If it doesn’t feel right I will erase the whole stroke/act and then will try again. It has to feel fresh and precise. On a conceptual level, I respond to my environment by also using my imagination, letting the first associations lead, later turning playtime into something I can take seriously. I use the same playtime to connect different worlds, cultures, and religious symbols which are a part of our collective memory. Unexpected combinations often lead to a mystic effect, which I am fond of creating in my work. Sometimes, the result ends up humorous.

I like to watch and then translate my experience into an object or painting. I simulate the experience as an appetite, a hunger. I have to taste it and digest its true colors, shapes and patterns.

Painting, sculpting, photographing, video or performance, directing a scene are all part of my studio work. I often use them all to create my work even if the end result is a painting.
